Celebrate International Yoga Day on June 21!

Originated in India with an aim to transform the body and mind, Yoga emerged into existence over 6000 years back. The benefits of yoga and its contribution towards the betterment of physical and mental health are known all over the world. Hence, a day to honour this ancient physical, mental and spiritual practice was long due.

The idea of an International Day of Yoga was proposed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his address to the General Assembly last September, calling yoga “a holistic approach to health and well being” and to finding “the sense of oneness with yourself, the world and the nature.” He asked world leaders to adopt this lifestyle.

Hence, June 21 was declared as the International Day of Yoga by the United Nations General Assembly on December 11, 2014. Indian Ministry of Yoga and Traditional medicines also eyes to create a world record to feature in the Guinness World Record book for the largest yoga demonstration at a single place.

Yoga is a precious endowment of India’s antiquated custom. It is not about activity but rather to find the feeling of unity inside you, the world and the nature. By changing our way of life and making cognizance, it can help us manage environmental change.

There is no denying that yoga has lived on in light of the fact that it incorporates all and everything—inabilities, ineptitudes, age, gender, nationalities, religious beliefs, etc. So let’s us all come together to celebrate the power of yoga.
